Fishing Report

Inshore action remains strong.

  • Seatrout are active over sandbar-to-grass-flat transitions. (3-6 ft), especially where current concentrates bait. Expect fsh species like bluefish, ladyfish, and small sharks, often sign posted by diving seabirds.
  • Mangrove snapper are clustered around structures–reefs, docks, jetties, bridges,–favoring live shrimp, pichards and small pinfish. Use light rigs with small circles hooks and fluorocarbon leaders.
  • Snook are rooming the surf and nearshore reefs. Use pichards, herring, small pinfish, bucktail jigs (1/8–1/4 oz) or small flies around structures. Early morning and evenings are prime, and snook must be catch and release.

Fort Myers–standard Fishing Report (Late August) 

Weather  & Conditions 

— Hot and humid afternoons with frequent thunderstorms, ideal fishing windows are early morning and late evening.  Cooling waters and shaded areas offer the best temps for active fish. 

Inshore &Backwater Action 

— Snook are “on fire” especially around mangrove edges and passes.–live threadfin herring on strong leaders delivers consistent results.

–Redfish remain active on shallow flats.  shrimp-tipped jigs
